The Wombarra house project began with a dilapidated timber structure on a steep block of coastal land with an above ground swimming pool on the northern boundary.
The owners wanted to retain the pool, so the design was built up around both this and the expansive views over the Pacific Ocean.
Conceived as an open platform for living that flows out to the ocean, the simple skillion roof and the wall of glass to the north are oriented to bring in the winter sun, warming the main slab and providing a natural heating source.
In the summer, the glass walls slide away so that the exterior and interior spaces merge to become an open deck looking out to the sea, capturing the cooling breezes off the ocean.
